Yorkshire's top of the crop in marketing, web design and IT came together Tuesday night for the 2011 Insider's Yorkshire Digital & Technology Awards, presented by Stuart M McFarlane, sector manager of digital and new media at Yorkshire Forward.
As a relatively new affiliate to the Symphony team and the digital technology sector as a whole, I was knocked sideways by the echelon of talent and creativity residing about the region and to learn that Yorkshire's digital and new media sector is the fastest growing in the UK.
This year's event marks the 11th year of the awards, and featured guest speaker; Ajaz Ahmed, founder of Freeserve whom passionately emitted the importance of the digital and technology sector and that Yorkshire companies can and should go on to become global players.
The categories this year included:
- Best Digital Start Up
- Best Business to Business Website
- Best Business to Consumer Website
- Best Trading Platform
- Best Web Design Team
- Best Example of Mobile Technology
- Best Educational Software or E-Learning Initiative
- Software Provider
- IT Efficiency Award
- Best Digital Advertising Campaign
- Best App
Quba Ltd was shortlisted for 'Best Digital Advertising Campaign' for their savvy strategy synthesis for Sleepmasters and took home the award for 'Best Business to Business Website' for Symphony Event Management Software.
The judges said that the agency's Symphony Event Management Software website was user-friendly and inviting, encouraging the target market of event managers and conference organisers to click through for a demo. This has brought significant commercial benefits to the organisation, with demo requests coming in every week.
It was a pleasure to accept the award on behalf of the Symphony team and I am really proud that the software received such homage in a fiercely competitive, rapidly evolving field. Especially when too much of what the industry achieves in this region is still taken for granted. The software is in its 4th version and has been steadily developing since 2003 into the hybrid event management tool it is today. Our software team put everything we learn straight into Symphony and our experienced developers are proficient in knowing how to turn a good product into a great one, and relish in continuously improving what is already an award winning, efficient and user friendly software.
It was an up-beat evening and a great opportunity to celebrate the exciting potential the sector has to offer, with other local businesses that similarly are setting the bar sky-scrapingly high in quality and innovation.
